The Pasqualino Museum holds one of the largest collections in the world of rod puppets, marionettes and hand puppets, not only Sicilian but also Neapolitan, Asian and African. It tells how theatre is made with the hands.
The Sicilian opera dei pupi, with Charlemagne's paladins and the Saracens, is part of UNESCO's intangible heritage of humanity. The museum, founded by the anthropologist Antonio Pasqualino, shows the Palermo and Catania puppets, with their differences in armour and movement.
It also organises shows and workshops, including for children: seeing the puppets in action helps you understand the collections better.
